KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 16): Battersea Power Station saw a 30% year-on-year increase in footfall in December 2023, bringing the total visitors for the year to 11.2 million.

In a statement issued by Battersea Power Station Development Company, the development, which opened to the public on Oct 14, 2022, saw strong footfall over the Christmas period, mainly driven by the opening of over 40 new shops, bars, restaurants and leisure experiences.

“The strong footfall over the Christmas period is further testament to the unique and constantly evolving offering at Battersea Power Station, and provides a fitting conclusion to a successful 2023…. It has been amazing to witness the Battersea Power Station estate transform into a thriving riverside destination which welcomes thousands of visitors a day, and to have seen our shareholder’s vision for this once derelict area become a reality,” said Battersea Power Station Development Company chief executive officer Simon Murphy.

He elaborated that the unique mix of shops, bars, restaurants, leisure venues and engaging cultural activities in Battersea Power Station has attracted groups of all ages, while the homes and offices within and around the development bring a continuous buzz to the estate.

The latest addition to the development — Arcade Food Hall, which opens in July 2023, has helped drive a 25% increase in visitors to the development during the evenings. The food hall offers 13 different cuisines, two bars and three standalone restaurants. It features brands such as Bounce, Searcys Champagne Bar, Dishoom and the UK’s first tashas, which is a cafe concept that started in South Africa.

For 2024, Battersea Power Station will expand its office component with the launch of a 200,000 sq ft office building called 50 Electric Boulevard. Additionally, Koa at Electric Boulevard, a 204-apartment project, is expected to be completed soon.

On the retail side, the development will see further retail openings with shops like Mexican restaurant El Pastor, So.Shell Nail & Brow Bar, luxury health club Third Space, and LIPS Pharmacy and LIPS Healthcare Clinic and Diagnostic Centre.
