Thai-based ONYX Hospitality Group to expand Shama brand to China, Malaysia and Thailand in 2024

• There will be two new Shama properties in China (Shama Hub Metro South Hong Kong and Shama Hub Qiantang), two in Malaysia (Shama Medini Malaysia and Shama Suasana Johor Bahru) and one in Thailand (Shama Luxe Sathorn). The Shama serviced apartments will provide long- and short-term accommodation.

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 18): Thai-based hospitality management company ONYX Hospitality Group is expanding its Shama serviced apartment brand with five new properties in China, Malaysia and Thailand in 2024, to meet the increasing demand for serviced apartments in Asia.

There will be two new Shama properties in China (Shama Hub Metro South Hong Kong and Shama Hub Qiantang), two in Malaysia (Shama Medini Malaysia and Shama Suasana Johor Bahru) and one in Thailand (Shama Luxe Sathorn), according to a press statement dated Dec 18. The Shama serviced apartments will provide long- and short-term accommodation.

ONYX Hospitality Group chief executive officer Yuthachai Charanachitta said, "Shama is a brand under ONYX Hospitality Group's management, guided by the concept of 'Freedom to Explore'.”

"Our aim is to encourage residents to venture out, embrace the city's vibrancy, and enjoy an exciting and fulfilling life, even when staying in an unfamiliar place," he added in the statement.

The group currently operates a total of 16 Shama properties — six in Thailand, six in Hong Kong and four in China.

According to the statement, ONYX Hospitality Group has been around for over 50 years and is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for serviced apartments in Asia. "The company is expanding the Shama brand to cater to business travellers, bleisure tourists, and leisure visitors seeking convenient, flexible accommodation, with all the amenities of a home-away-from-home,” it added.
