• Iconic Group chairman and Iconic Penang director Datuk Seri Tan Kean Tet said the collaboration with Marriott signified the group’s effort to expand its presence in the hotel industry.

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 29): Iconic Penang Sdn Bhd, a privately-held company by Penang-based property developer Iconic Group, unveiled the five-star Iconic Marjorie Hotel on Thursday (Sept 28) at Icon City, Bukit Mertajam.

Iconic Marjorie Hotel will also be a part of Marriott International’s Tribute Portfolio series, as Iconic Penang signed a franchise agreement with Mariott.

Iconic Group chairman and Iconic Penang director Datuk Seri Tan Kean Tet said the collaboration with Marriott signified the group’s effort to expand its presence in the hotel industry.

“I believe our partnership will further unlock the potential value of Iconic’s property and hotel assets, leveraging Mariott’s extraordinary brand and presence. We are honoured to work with Marriott International and look forward to bringing Penang a truly five-star hotel experience, as part of the Tribute Portfolio family,” he said.

Iconic Marjorie Hotel is slated to open in 2024 and will be located at Bayan Lepas, Penang. The hotel will provide 298 rooms, an all-day dining restaurant, a lobby lounge, a pool bar, an outdoor swimming pool and a Pearl Ballroom, which can cater up to 850 people. The hotel will also be able to cater for seminars, workshops, business talks and conferences.

Marriott International senior vice president of development (Asia Pacific excluding China) Kevin Chen said: “We are excited to be a part of such a unique property and a chapter in Penang’s ever-evolving story. We look forward to growing and fostering a close and long-term relationship with Iconic Group, as we welcome them to our community of owners and strive to continue creating mutually beneficial opportunities”.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Penang state exco of Tourism and Creative Economy Wong Hon Wai, Penang state exco of Housing and Environment Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu, Penang state exco of Agrotechnology, Food Security and Cooperative Development Fahmi Zainol, and Penang state exco of  Local Government and Town & Country Planning Jason H’ng Mooi Lye.

Iconic Marjorie Hotel is the second hotel project by Iconic Group, and Hirsch Bedner Associates has been appointed to lead the interior design works for the hotel.

The first hotel by Iconic Group is the 195-room Iconic Hotel in Seberang Perai, Penang, which opened in 2016.
