KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 2): The movement control order (MCO), which was previously slated to end on Thursday (Feb 4), has been extended for a further two weeks until Feb 18.
All states are currently under the MCO except for Sarawak.
Most of Sarawak is under the conditional MCO (CMCO), except for Sibu which is under the MCO. The orders are set to expire on Feb 14.
The extension comes after three successive days of record-breaking new Covid-19 numbers from last Friday to Sunday, where the figures climbed to over 5,000.
On Saturday, 5,728 new infections were reported — the highest since the pandemic hit Malaysia in January last year.
Yesterday, Malaysia reported 4,214 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the country's cumulative number of infections to 219,173. It was slightly outpaced by 4,280 recoveries yesterday, bringing the number of cured and discharged patients to 170,329 and active cases to 48,074.
Ten deaths were reported yesterday, bringing the toll to 770.
