KUALA LUMPUR (April 21): UOA Real Estate Investment Trust (UOA REIT) said its chairman Tan Sri Alwi Jantan has resigned today, due to personal reasons.

Alwi, who has been with UOA REIT in an independent and non-executive capacity, boasts a luminous career in the public sector.

He was previously secretary general to the Agricultural Ministry (1984-1987), deputy secretary general in the Prime Minister's Department (1981-1984), and secretary general in the Health Ministry (1977 to 1981), according to UOA REIT's bourse filing today.

Prior to that, he was secretary general in the Local Government and Federal Territory Ministry (1976-1977), state secretary for the Selangor government (1972-1976), and director general of the National Archives and Library (1966-1971).

He joined Genting Malaysia Bhd as its public affairs and human resources executive vice-president in 1990 and was re-designated as its independent non-executive director on July 1, 2011.

UOA REIT units closed unchanged at RM1.61 today, for a market capitalisation of RM680.82 million. – theedgemarkets.com
