Overview

Rasa is a small town situated in Selangor with the border separating Selangor from Pahang close by on its East and the Perak border about 30 km to its North. In Malay, Rasa means ‘taste’. Kuala Kubu Bharu is located to its North while Batang Kali is to its South. It falls within the district of Hulu Selangor and covers an area of 83 km. It is composed of a collection of many tiny neighbourhoods – Kampung Melayu Rasa, Kampung Bukit Rasa, Kampung Baru Chuang, Kampung Sungai Engkak, Taman Rasa Jaya, Taman Rasa Utama and Taman Seri Rasa. Cutting across through Rasa, from north east to south west is the river, Sungai Selangor which also branches within Rasa, to form Sungai Rening.

Rasa is a very quaint and secluded town that does not get a great many visitors. It is a peaceful location that is yet untouched by the hectic city life. But it serves as the perfect stop-over spot en route for those visiting on ahead towards popular holiday destinations such as Chilling Waterfalls (about 30 minute drive away), Genting Highlands (about 50 minute drive away) and Fraser’s Hill (about 1 and a half hour drive away). Many shop houses can be observed with small eateries and stores.

Places of Attraction

The main attraction Rasa proudly presents is the abandoned Tan Boon Chia Mansion. It was built in 1918, by Tan Boon Chia, one of the pioneers of tin mining in Selangor. As he rose from rags-to-riches, he built his stately home sprawled over 1 hectare of land. During the Japanese invasion in 1941, the family abandoned their home and fled, leaving everything behind. The derelict building was restored back to its former splendor and is now preserved as a historical site. It showcases the architectural remains of a bygone era such as archways with Chinese inscriptions and pillars and frames with plasterwork of floral motifs.

Amenities and Facilities

Amenities within Rasa include Masjid Jamek Al-Khalidiah, Surau Taman Keruing, Surau At-Taufiqiah, clinic, hardware store, restaurant, motor vehicle dealership, Shell gas station and a school, SK Rasa. Along the main street of Rasa is a small 100 year old Chinese temple. Other facilities such as hospital, Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital, banks, pharmacy, police station and post office are located a short 15 minute drive away in Kuala Kubu Bharu. The Bukit Beruntung Golf and Country Club is half an hour away.

Accessibility and Transportation

It can be accessed through Federal Route 1 which passes through Rasa and joins to Federal Route 55. The opening of a KTM Komuter station in Rasa in 2007, along the Seremban Line has increased accessibility via public transport. The station is in the center of the town.
