Overview

Pulau Indah (formerly known as Pulau Lumut) is an island located off the West coast of Selangor bordered by the Straits of Lumut, Straits of Klang and the Straits of Malacca. Pulau Indah literally translates to “beautiful island”. It was a quaint, rural island with mangrove swamps, Orang Asli inhabitants, traditional Malay fishing villages and luscious greenery stretching as far as the eye could see. The locals had lives based upon agriculture and fishing. Transformation came to the island with the opening of the Pulau Indah Expressway, in 1995 and the development of West Port, one of Port Klang’s three major shipping terminals.

At present, the southern side of the island maintains its unhurried life with four local villages, Kampung Perigi Nenas, Kampung Sungai Pinang, Kampung Sungai Kembong and Kampung Teluk Nipah. The mangrove coast is being developed as an eco-tourism attraction. Pier One Laguna Park is a residential development with a mile-long promenade, jetties, playground, futsal pitches, picnic areas and a restaurant. On the other end, the northern side is a fast-paced development, housing industrial estates and commercial developments such as Bandar Armada Putra which consists of shophouses and housing estate.

Popular attractions in the island include Port Klang Cruise Centre, Royal Selangor Yacht Club (RSYC), Port Klang Free Zone – a free commercial and industrial zone and Indah Island Industrial Park with multiple full-scale factories such as Federal Flour Mill, F&N, Scientex Berhad, PMB Spectrum, Mewah Oil, Oleon and Central Sugar in operation. The MILS Logistics Hub provides integrated logistics services such as halal logistic, freight management, warehousing, transportation and project cargo management. Many government agencies including National Hydrographic Centre of Malaysia, Royal Malaysian Navy, Royal Malaysian Customs Department and Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency are located here.
