Setapak

 

Overview

Setapak is a huge suburb in Kuala Lumpur. Right in the middle of Setapak is the growing township of Wangsa Maju. Some say the former tin-mining and rubber estate name Setapak derived from it being very close to Kuala Lumpur, which translates from Malay to ‘one step’.

Amenities and Facilities

A very mature suburb, it is not surprising that there are many historical interests in Setapak, as well as amenities and schools. The National Zoo is in Setapak, opened back in 1963. There is also the Titiwangsa Recreational Park in the south of the suburb and the Ayer Panas Hot Springs. As for schools, they include Setapak High School, Sekolah Sri Utama, Air Panas Girls School, Chong Hwa Primary School and Chiao Nan Primary School. For tertiary education, the Tunku Abdul Rahman University Colleage is also there.

Aside from that, the Royal Selangor Pewter factory is located in Setapak.  Royal Selangor is a Malaysia pewter manufacturer and retailer. It is said to be the largest of its kind in the world.

While Setapak has always been a very vibrant area, population there has been said to have increased tremendously over the recent years as more and more condominiums and commercial buildings have been built there. Not missing out from the excitement are new shopping malls there too, including Wangsa Walk, AEON and KL Festival City.

Food offerings there are not lacking either. There is a wide range of cuisines available such as Indian, Chinese, Malay, Taiwanese, Korean and many more.
