Overview

Bukit Bintang has long been a very popular tourist hotspot in Kuala Lumpur city centre or rather, a famous shopping and entertainment district. It is also part of what is often referred to as Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle. It is just 2km away from the world famous KL Twin Towers and KLCC shopping mall, as well as Chinatown and beautiful temples.

The landscape of Bukit Bintang has evolved tremendously over the years. It used to be known mainly for popular shopping centres such as Starhill, Lot 10, Sungei Wang Plaza and Bukit Bintang Plaza (BB Plaza). More recently, adding to its high traffic and famous malls are Pavilion Kuala Lumpur – an upscale mall right in the heart of the city – as well as Fareinheit 88 (previously KL Plaza).

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is occupying what used to be Bukit Bintang Girls’ School, previously a colonial school. Besides shopping, there are various eateries within and around the malls in Bukit Bintang that caters to all including Middle Eastern Restaurants and fabulous Chinese eateries.

Accessibility and Transportation

In terms of accessibility, the upcoming Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit will see one station for Bintang Bintang, which will be a much-welcomed convenience once it is up and running. Many roads lead to Bukit Bintang as it is right in the city and traffic can sometimes be rather high most of the time.

Aside from the existing monorails in the city centre, Bukit Bintang is also easily reached via the elevated and air-conditioned walkway from Suria KLCC shopping centre to Pavilion shopping centre. It is said that the average walk between both malls would take about 15 minutes.

Amenities and Facilities

There are also many hotels in the area catering to all types of budget and travellers. It would be high in demand due to its proximity to just about everything in Kuala Lumpur and beyond. Jalan Alor is perhaps one of the busiest streets especially at night. The street seems to be always filled with stalls offering excellent food including seafood, grilled chicken wings and noodles at amazing prices.

Changkat Bukit Bintang features many pubs, clubs and restaurants and it one of the hottest nightspots in the city. If you’re visiting Kuala Lumpur for just a couple of days or in transit, Bukit Bintang would be the perfect spot as it would be very convenient to experience it all.
