Overview

Kukup is located approximately 40 kilometres southwest of Johor Bahru in the Pontian district in the state of Johor. Buses can be boarded at the Larkin Bus Terminal in Johor Bahru to get to Kukup.

A small fishing village, Kukup is well-known and frequented both by local tourists and especially those from Singapore, for its seafood restaurants which are built on stilts over the water which offer a tempting array of local cuisine. Short weekend getaways at homestay places also make up many of these tourists’ itineraries.

Kukup is also home to the Kukup National Park, where hundreds of different mangrove tree species and the beauty of the natural ecosystems can be viewed up close in one of the largest uninhabited mangroves in the world.

Ferries run from the Kukup International Ferry Terminal on a regularly scheduled basis to connect Kukup with selected Indonesian islands like Batam Island and Tanjung Balai.
