SEREMBAN (Oct 2): Seremban (MPS) and Nilai Municipal Councils (MPN) are in principal ready to become a city but merging the two authorities will need further study, according to president for both councils Datuk Abd Halim Abd Latif.

He said the merger of the two local authorities needs to be looked into closely, because it involves the merger of the two regions and the two organisations.

“We have already fulfilled the requirements to become a city,” he told reporters after distributing 2,000 leaflets at Senawang toll plaza to promote the Seremban Lake Gardens Festival in November, but said it was up to the Negeri Sembilan government when that would be.

“The state will choose a suitable date to announce Seremban as a city, but we are prepared,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said seven events will be held at the month-long Seremban Lake Garden Festival 2015 to begin on November 7.

Among the activities are a fishing competition and urban trail (Nov 7), Seremban craft (for nine days from Nov 7), a colouring contest for 1,000 children (Nov 14), garden sculpture competition (Nov 21), vehicle exhibition (Nov 22) and a family run (Nov 28).

“We are targeting 20,000 visitors at the festival, which is expected to have a spill-over benefit for businesses, hoteliers and public transport.” -- The Malaysian Insider
