SEREMBAN (Jan 25): Seremban police will be starting a smart partnership with housing developers to boost safety in residential areas.

Seremban police chief Muhamad Zaki Harun (pictured) said the programme will include housing developers in Senawang, Paroi, Seremban 2, Mambau and Bandar Sri Sendayan.

“This initiative is aimed at creating a safe environment for members of the public and further reducing crime in residential areas,” he told reporters, adding that developers would usually sell safety as a package when promoting new-build houses.

“The police would later come in to provide feedback,” he said.

Zaki pointed out that this was the first initiative to collaborate with housing developers on increasing safety measures, reducing crime and ensuring residents felt safe.

“We want to minimise any opportunity for criminals to strike, like breaking into homes,” he said, adding that there were developers who had agreed to provide the police with patrol vehicles.

“We spoke to IJM and they have agreed to provide us with the vehicles. Next, we will be speaking to Matrix,” he said.

The police will also come up with a strategic plan on locations most suitable to set up police booths, as well as mobile police stations in residential areas, Zaki said.

“We will strategise to ensure our monitoring and patrolling will give maximum results,” he added.

Meanwhile, Zaki believed the rapidly developing commercial areas in Seremban were going to provide a juicy target for street crime.

“Seremban is developing quickly and new areas will easily become a haven for criminals,” so he said police would step up patrols in those areas.

He added that extra attention would be given to goldsmiths and banks.

“We will also strengthen the response team, uniform and plain clothes officers,” he said. -- The Malaysian Insider
