EDRE

PETALING JAYA (Aug 16): UCSI College has teamed up with Hartamas Academy Resources Sdn Bhd — the training and development arm of Hartamas Real Estate Sdn Bhd — to offer the Executive Diploma in Real Estate (EDRE) programme to those interested in pursuing a career in real estate.

According to UCSI College’s CEO and president Professor Dr Mabel Tan, the part-time module of EDRE that takes two years and five months to complete is designed to accommodate full-time working professionals, making it “ideal for aspiring realtors, current real estate negotiators or property professionals who seek to become a registered real estate agent”.

“Tasks and assignments are designed in a real estate context, thus allowing participants the opportunity to put theory into practice,” she said at the programme launch today.

Tan added that EDRE graduates will be exempted from Part 1 and Part 2 of the Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents Malaysia’s (BOVAEA) Estate Agent Written Examination.

“UCSI’s collaboration with Hartamas Academy addresses current market needs.

“We wanted to provide the industry with academically qualified real estate agents equipped with industry-relevant knowledge and experience with the aim to raise the overall standards in providing quality service,” said Tan.

The EDRE programme is conducted by leading academics from UCSI College, in collaboration with seasoned real estate negotiators from Hartamas Real Estate Group.

Meanwhile, Hartamas Real Estate’s associate director Christopher Chan said the EDRE programme currently offered at UCSI University’s main campus has received good response.

“The May 2015 intake of the EDRE programme at UCSI University’s main campus has seen 200 participants taking up the course, prompting the UCSI Education Group Holdings Sdn Bhd to offer the course at UCSI College Petaling Jaya campus as well,” he said.

The programme is a stepping stone for those who aspire to become registered estate agents (REA).

“Real estate is one of the most vibrant sectors in the country’s economy and has a huge multiplier effect. The real estate industry has contributed 12.4% of Malaysia’s total gross domestic product (GDP) in 2015.

“But we need more real estate agents to serve the appetite of the public for  real estate needs,” he said, adding that there is a severe shortage of registered estate agents in the Malaysian market.

The EDRE is recognised and approved by BOVAEA and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Graduates of the programme are also eligible to apply to be Probationary Estate Agents and for the Test of Professional Competence.

To enrol for the course, participants need to possess at least three Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) credits, aged 21 and above and have three years of work experience in a real estate related field.
