Datuk Seri Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul AzizKUALA LUMPUR (July 20): It was a move that created a lot of gnashing of teeth and angst among many city folk.

But it looks like motorists parking in Taman Tun Dr Ismail can now collectively heave a sigh of relief as The Star reported today that City Hall (DBKL) has scrapped the newly introduced parking rate for area. The move comes with immediate effect.

Two days ago, DBKL hiked parking charges in the CBD from 80sen an hour to RM2 for the first hour, RM3 for the second hour and each subsequent hour after that.

It was reported on Monday that areas in the city impacted by this hike are Bukit Bintang, Bukit Damansara, Sri Hartamas, Desa Hartamas, Solaris Mont'Kiara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Bangsar. The new parking charges would be enforced in stages from today till Aug 1.

The increase could hit 200% in some areas.

The Star also reported that the revision was made after a meeting between DBKL and Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor this morning.

“After taking in the views of all parties, City Hall had decided to revert the parking charges at TTDI since it is a residential township,” said Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz (pictured).
