CIDB receives significant interest from Australian construction landscape

KUALA LUMPUR (May 8): The Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) has identified several potential collaboration areas in Australia's mining and energy sectors including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes and labour supply.

Other potential areas identified are the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Industrialized Building Systems (IBS), which according to CIDB is the outcome of a working visit as well as participation in the Sydney Build Expo 2024 in Australia early this month.

“The objective of CIDB's participation at Sydney Build 2024 is to explore the construction technology, especially digital technology that can be implemented in Malaysia to support and ensure the successful implementation of 'Construction 4.0' for the construction industry.

“Additionally, the element of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) emerged as a crucial area requiring attention, serving as a benchmark to enhance the technical workforce in alignment with government initiatives,” it said in a statement here on Wednesday day.

According to the statement, the official working visit comprised a series of conferences and networking sessions with the Australian government, agencies and associations.

At the conference, CIDB Chief Executive Datuk Sr Mohd Zaid Zakaria also delivered a keynote speech at a plenary session entitled "International Business Construction — Go Global."

Five Malaysian construction-related companies participated in the expo namely Gamuda, Manly Tech Malaysia, Sunnik Industrial Panel Tanks, Plytech and Sudut Swasta representing various sectors such as contractors, BIM and suppliers.

This initiative aligns with CIDB's function under Act 520 to promote, stimulate and facilitate the export of services related to the construction industry.

By fostering collaborations and knowledge exchange with international partners, CIDB aims to strengthen Malaysia's position in the global construction market, according to the statement.
