• "We need to make sure they meet three conditions, namely how much work they have in hand, their experience, and their financial strength."

KUALA LUMPUR (March 12): A total of 300 companies have applied for the tender for Package 1B Phase 1 of the Pan Borneo Highway project involving 15 work packages, said Deputy Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

He said that the pre-qualification process for the tender had just been closed, with another month to shortlist the companies before they are brought to the tender board.

"The tender for 15 Phase 1B packages is not only for Sabah contractors, but for all Malaysians, and will not be open to foreign contractors.

"We need to make sure they meet three conditions, namely how much work they have in hand, their experience, and their financial strength," he said during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday.

Ahmad said the government will also take strict action, including terminating the contracts of companies that failed to complete the given projects within the stipulated period.

So far, the work progress of Package 1A of the Pan Borneo Highway project is 88%, with all the contractors from Sabah, he said.

He was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (Warisan-Semporna) regarding the government's action against any companies that failed to complete Pan Borneo Highway projects within the stipulated time frame.
