PAM targets to receive more than 800 participants for SinggahKL 2024

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 20): The Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) expects to receive more than 800 participants for SinggahKL 2024, a two-day guided tour programme to visit 20 selected buildings and sites in Kuala Lumpur, according to programme convenor Almaz Rahim during a press conference at the PAM Centre in Bangsar on Tuesday morning.

SinggahKL 2024, which will take place on March 2 and 3 this year, has received 621 registrations to date.

The 20 buildings selected for the two-day programme are Bangunan AICB (Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers), Panggung Eksperimen Universiti Malaya, Ceylonz Suite, Else Kuala Lumpur, International School of Kuala Lumpur, Kapas Heights Condominium, Arata Bukit Tunku, Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre, PAM Centre, Parkroyal Collection Kuala Lumpur, Pusat Kreatif Kanak-Kanak Tuanku Bainun, Saloma Link, Star Residences, The Five @ Kompleks Pejabat Damansara, TNB Platinum, Urban Museum Kuala Lumpur (Ur-Mu), W Hotel & Residences, Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec), Menara Hap Seng 3, and architect John Koh's home in Bukit Damansara (Air Angin Metamorphosis in Architecture).

Organised by PAM, SinggahKL was established in 2019. The programme acts as a platform for the public to learn and directly engage with building owners and architects, to understand the design of the selected projects as well as visit buildings that are not commonly open to the public.

“Since its inception in 2019, the programme has become an annual event. It only stopped [temporarily] because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We try to introduce buildings designed by PAM members, enhance the image of Malaysian architects in the eyes of the public, and be a source of inspiration to the young generations who will become future leaders in the field of architecture,” said PAM president Abu Zarim Abu Bakar during his opening speech.

Currently in its third edition, Abu Zarim shared that there is a possibility to expand the programme to other PAM chapters in the country: “I do believe this event can be expanded in the future to the rest of the country, especially with the help of our friends in the other PAM chapters such as Sabah, Sarawak, Johor, Penang and the East Coast.”

In addition, Almaz hopes that the Ministry of Tourism (Motac) will consider promoting SinggahKL 2024 to tourists: “We do hope Motac could think of this as a tourist event in the country which can be promoted internationally.”
