PORT KLANG (Feb 20): Swift Haulage Bhd, Malaysia's largest haulier and leading integrated logistics service provider, announced the official launch of its eco-friendly warehouse and haulage office in Westports.

It also announced the signing of an integrated logistics services agreement with Sharp Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd for the provision of warehousing, storage and handling services.

The new warehouse is equipped to handle the most demanding logistics needs of clients and has a capacity of 269,000 sq ft and 26 loading bays, together with a storage capacity of 11,544 pallets and a floor storage capacity of 169,000 sq ft.

With the new warehouse, the group currently has a total 1.6 million sq ft of combined warehousing space, said group chief executive officer Loo Yong Hui in a press conference after the launch of the warehouse and haulage office here.

The new haulage office, covering an area of 8,000 sq ft complemented by a workshop spanning over 10,000 sq ft, will feature 10 bays dedicated to prime mover repair and maintenance and a bay for tyre maintenance services. The maintenance facility ensures that Swift's fleet remains in top condition, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of its logistics operations.

Swift's haulage division serves as the backbone of the group, providing the essential infrastructure necessary for the company's extensive reach and enviable position in the industry. The Westports haulage division has been in operation since 2016 and consistently executes over 6,000 containers a month, has a staging capacity of 400 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) equipped with two laden stackers, and serves more than 100 clients from a diverse group of industries.

Loo said the agreement with Sharp Electronics Malaysia underscores Swift's expertise in providing comprehensive logistics solutions tailored to the specific needs of their clients.

“Backed by the capabilities of the green logistics division, our eco-friendly warehouses and our commitment to service quality and reliability, we are well positioned to support Sharp Electronics Malaysia's logistics requirements efficiently and effectively. Together, I am confident that we will forge a long and fruitful working relationship in the years to come,” said Loo in a statement.

"Looking back, the journey began with forwarding and haulage services, providing Sharp with reliable and efficient transportation solutions. Swift then expanded its services to include door-to-door delivery across Sabah and Sarawak and as the partnership continued to flourish, Swift extended its reach to facilitate cross-border trucking from Thailand. Today, the collaboration has expanded even further, with Swift providing warehousing solutions and beyond, demonstrating the depth of trust and confidence between the two companies.

"With the addition of this new eco-friendly Westports warehouse, our capacity increases to 1.6 million square feet across the northern, central, and southern regions of Malaysia," Loo said.

He noted that the group's warehouses are all strategically positioned to ensure maximum efficiency for its customers.

"This strategic positioning not only facilitates smoother logistics operations but also enables us to provide faster and more cost-effective solutions to our clients," Loo added.

As part of Swift's environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) drive, its new warehouse is fully equipped with solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems. These eco-friendly features not only reduce the group's carbon footprint but also cater to the needs of its clients and support their sustainability goals.

Sharp Electronics Malaysia managing director Ting Yang Chung said that by strategically aligning with Swift, it aims to elevate the future of its corporation, enhancing both dealer and customer experiences through premium consumer electronics installation and service solutions in Malaysia.

"Leveraging Sharp's extensive logistics equipment and solutions from Japan, including automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and Al logistic solutions, we can introduce cutting-edge smart logistics solutions to Malaysia, fostering the development of our logistics business," Ting added.
