KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 13): Berjaya Land Bhd (BLand) was among the most actively traded stocks on Bursa Malaysia on Wednesday morning, after its rail arm Berjaya Rail Sdn Bhd announced the appointment of Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim Ismail, the daughter of the sultan of Johor, as its chairperson.

The counter's trading volume swelled to 17.35 million shares, over 17 times its 200-day trading average volume of 998,147 shares. This also placed the group as the fifth most briskly traded stock on the local bourse.

The counter was also the fifth top gainer on Bursa, rising as high as six sen or 22.22% to 33 sen, before retreating to 32 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM1.57 billion.

At 33 sen, the stock was at its highest in two years and four months.

On Tuesday, BLand said Tun Aminah holds a 30% stake in Berjaya Rail, which is actively participating in the request for information exercise by MyHSR Corp for the revilatised Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail project.

Tun Aminah also sits on the board of Berjaya Corp Bhd, Berjaya Assets Bhd, Berjaya Capital Bhd, Berjaya Hartanah Bhd, Bukit Kiara Resort Bhd, and REDtone Digital Bhd.
