KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 21): Sime Darby Property Bhd (SDP) announced the grand prize winner of its inaugural photo contest, Capture 8, at a ceremony in Serenia City on Tuesday (Feb 21).

The winner, Hwang Chang Ching, received the grand prize of an all-expenses paid trip to experience Battersea Power Station in London. The winning photograph, which was titled "Light Up Your Life with Passion, Love and Joy" showed her daughter jumping gracefully against the backdrop of The Glades located in Putra Heights

SDP group managing director Datuk Azmir Merican said that the competition was aimed to create visibility and awareness among the general public of the features seen within the townships.

“We at SDP are cognisant of the fact that placemaking features are crucial in bringing life to a community within our townships. Initiatives such as the Capture 8 photo contest serve as an important approach in ensuring that we effectively engage with the people and communities.

“We have consistently geared up our efforts in ensuring that we build and develop the best and most productive facilities for the benefit of the communities across our townships,” he added.

The photo contest, held in collaboration with Canon Malaysia, received almost 4,000 submissions to highlight Sime Darby’s townships, which include Putra Heights, Serenia City, Subang Jaya City Centre, and City of Elmina in Selangor; KLGCC Resort and KL East in Kuala Lumpur; and Bandar Ainsdale and Nilai Impian in Negeri Sembilan. The participants were required to submit the best photographs of Sime Darby’s townships using three themes — Leisure, Culture and Nature.

The Capture 8 photo contest was split into four categories, which were professional, smartphone, drone and special. A total of 164 winners received their share of prizes that were worth over RM288,888, including Canon DSLR cameras, Canon printers, DJI drones and cash prizes.
