- “We seized assets that were equal in value to the amount owed. If the owners pay up, the items will be returned.”
PETALING JAYA (Sept 2): The Selayang Municipal Council recently seized electronic items and other moveable assets of six business premises as their owners failed to pay their assessment taxes.
Selayang Municipal Council president Mohd Yazid Sairi told The Star in a report that warrants have already been issued before action was taken during operations held last month.
“Action had to be taken as the property owners failed to comply with notices to settle their arrears.
“We seized assets that were equal in value to the amount owed. If the owners pay up, the items will be returned.
“Confiscation of assets can also be carried out against defaulters in residential premises, so we advise them to settle their arrears immediately,” Mohd Yazid told the daily.
He also revealed that 2,622 warrants had been issued to defaulters since July 1, and 1,112 paid up once they received their notices.
“Seizures can be carried out within seven days of the warrant if they fail to settle the arrears, but we are willing to negotiate options for instalment payments,” he said.
