SUBANG JAYA (April 14): Malaysia Aviation Group and Sunway Group have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore wide-ranging joint initiatives that include new business opportunities, joint marketing campaigns, and branding and promotional activities.

Sunway Malls & Theme Parks chief executive officer HC Chan said the collaboration aims to leverage each other's strengths and strong presence in a range of industries including aviation, property, education, medical tourism and hospitality.

“Malaysia remains a touristic destination that has so much to offer. We believe with this partnership, it is time for revitalisation and recovery for these sectors once again, putting Malaysia on the map of the world,” Chan told reporters at a media briefing after the signing of the MoU between the two companies on Wednesday (April 13).

The MoU is for a period of two years, and its material impact would be broad, according to Malaysia Aviation Group chief sustainability officer Philip See.

"That is because our [Malaysia Aviation] customer segments that we operate in are also so broad. As we see how we have moved from the pandemic phase to the transition to endemic, our customer segments are evolving as well. We are just at the beginning of the journey [for this MoU]," he said.

Through this MoU, Malaysia Airlines will be appointed as the preferred airline of Sunway, reflecting Sunway’s confidence in the airline’s premium and reliable services across the airline’s network, both locally and internationally. Malaysia Aviation is the parent company of Malaysia Airlines.

At the same time, Sunway will be able to tap into new opportunities through the airline’s tour operating arm MHolidays, the airline’s digital student travel programme MHexplorer and a joint reward programme via the airline’s travel and lifestyle loyalty programme Enrich by offering comprehensive travel packages covering flights and hotel stays.

Both groups will further offer curated medical tourism packages as well. These packages will extend exclusive discounts and air travel promotions of Malaysia Aviation’s airline companies for customers requiring treatment at Sunway Healthcare Group’s facilities.

Furthermore, this collaboration will allow both brands to leverage each other’s expertise to establish a robust talent ecosystem on student placements, academic information and knowledge exchange, develop joint-research projects and offer new aviation programmes at selected Sunway educational institutions.

This collaboration will also open doors to sustainability initiatives that reinforce Malaysia Aviation and Sunway’s shared commitment to sustainability as both organisations have pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
