KUALA LUMPUR (May 8): Low Yat Group chairman Tan Sri Low Yow Chuan (pictured) passed away today, according to a family member.

The family member told theedgemarkets.com that the octogenarian passed away peacefully at home.

"Yow Chuan’s funeral will be held on Wednesday (May 12),” the family member said.

According to Low Yat Group’s website, the group is one of the largest privately-owned groups in Malaysia with diversified businesses including property development and investments, hotels and construction.

"Headed by the chairman, Tan Sri Low Yow Chuan, the group has grown from strength to strength since its humble beginnings as a construction company in the 1940s.

"The founder of the family business was the late Tan Sri Dato’ Low Yat,” Low Yat Group said.

Low Yat is Yow Chuan’s father.

According to online reports, Low Yat founded Low Yat Construction Company Sdn Bhd in 1947.
