KUALA LUMPUR (April 3): It looks we will have to get used to the fact that there will not be any mass gatherings over the next half year in the country owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Even if the movement control order (MCO) comes to an end on April 14, Dr Noor Hisham said Malaysians will now have to live with “new norms” to keep the disease at bay, reported the Malay Mail.

One of the new norms are like not shaking hands and “constantly washing our hands and also practice safe social distancing of about one metre” he explained.

“On mass gatherings, from six-months to a year, we can see that we discourage mass gatherings,” he told the media today.

Meanwhile, as at noon today, 217 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded – nine more after the 208-case spike seen yesterday – bringing the latest positive cases in the country to 3,333.

It is also the fourth time the daily figure topped 200 cases, since the first infection was discovered in Malaysia on January 25.

Malaysia remains Southeast Asia's worst coronavirus-hit nation, and the fifth in Asia.
