MELAKA (July 18): The state authorities want to build “an additional” 84 affordable homes for residents here, reported The Star today.

“These planned homes will be provided for free. We decided to construct more such houses after our maiden project at Lipat Kijang in Jasin won praises from Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he launched the scheme on June 10,” Melaka housing, local government and environment committee chairman Datuk Tey Kok Kiew revealed after the state assembly sitting at Seri Negeri here recently.

He added the monies for the homes of RM3 million have already been “allocated by the Federal Government”.

As for the locations of these home, Tey told the daily that they “would be decided based on the areas with the highest number of applicants”.

Melaka residents categorised as hardcore poor can apply for the affordable homes via their community heads.

Tey said “each application would be screened and approved during the weekly state executive council meeting”.
