KOTA ISKANDAR (August 14): Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian said the land of the Jalan Segget Umno building belongs to the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB).

He added that the occupancy was illegal, and that Umno should vacate the building.

Opposition leader Datuk Hasni Mohammad (BN-Benut) has said that the building in question is owned by Johor Umno.

The Sun Daily reports that when he was contacted for his response on the matter, Hasni said the land was awarded by the state government in 1967, with a temporary land title of 99 years which will expire in 2066.

Osman also said that political parties will not be allowed to build their offices on government land.

He said the former administration (Barisan Nasional) were not in compliance with laws, namely the National Land Code 1965 and the Johor Land Regulation 1966 (Amendment 2004).

According to Osman, as reported by The Sun, records from the Land and Mines Office show that 15 parcels of land had been awarded to Umno and MCA for building their divisional and branch offices in Johor.

He was replying to a question from DAP's Stulang assemblyman Chen Kah Eng at the State Assembly today.

He said government land is to be used to benefit the people.

Osman added that some Umno buildings had applied for their land title after 10 years of occupancy.

Stulang assemblyman Chen Kah Eng also said to the state assembly, that some component parties of BN had built their offices on government land, and even built stalls, which were rented out, some to illegal immigrants.
