REMBAU (Oct 19): The existing railway alignment will not be used for the Seremban station of the High Speed Rail link between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore (KL-Spore HSR), said Negeri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan yesterday.

He said there would be a new alignment to avoid more residential areas from being acquired for the purpose, Bernama reported.

“It has to be a new alignment because there has to be a buffer zone of 250m on either side of the high speed rail track.

“If we are to use the existing alignment, many housing areas will be affected. So the new alignment from Melaka will pass mainly oil palm plantations, namely the Jimah area (Port Dickson) onwards to Sendayan, Gadong Jaya and to Labu (Seremban) and that is where our HSR station will be built,” he told reporters while attending a Deepavali open house hosted by MIC Information chief and Rembau MIC division chairman Datuk VS Mogan in Rantau near here yesterday.

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak the architectural concept designs for all seven stations for KL-Spore HSR.

The seven stations are located in Bandar Malaysia, Bangi-Putrajaya, Seremban, Melaka, Muar, Batu Pahat and Iskandar Puteri.

The 350km KL-Spore HSR will cut the travelling time between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore to 90 minutes. The trains are expected to run at a top speed of more than 300kph.
