LONDON (Feb 17): Malaysia pioneer of Transit-Oriented-Developments (TOD), Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) has won two awards at the 7th Middle East Business Leadership Awards (MEBLA) for its expertise in urban planning and infrastructure development.

MRCB clinched the Best Urban Property Developer Award and the Best Transit-Oriented-Development Award for its flagship development KL Central Business District, or better known as KL Sentral CBD.

"This is the second year in a row that MRCB has emerged a winner at MEBLA," MRCB chief operating officer Kwan Joon Hoe told the reporters after receiving the awards on Friday night in London.

The first MEBLA award the company won was the Masterclass Global CEO award given to its managing director Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din in 2015.

MEBLA was organised by The Leaders International, a high-profile business magazine based in Malaysia and endorsed by American Leadership Development Association, a US-based non-government organization that showcases global leadership at large.

MRCB director, Jamaludin Zakaria who represented the company to receive the awards, said the double-win is a well-deserved achievement.

"Our victory is a testament to MRCB's ability in developing Transit-Oriented-Developments," he said.

The award-winning KL Sentral CBD features world-class developments, such as Menara Shell, Menara CIMB, Ascott Sentral, Menara Allianz Sentral, Q Sentral, Nu Sentral and hotels like Aloft, Hilton and Le Meridien as well as branded residences St Regis, and other multinational corporations' offices.
Currently, KL Sentral CBD is used by over 180,000 people daily.

The award event organiser- My Events International CEO Shahul Hameed Dawood said there were 123 nominations from 17 countries, but only 32 companies were chosen as winners by judges in different categories and from various sectors including information technology, publishing, textile as well as beauty and wellness.

Members of UK Parliament Stephen Timms and Rosena Allin-Khan, the High Commissioner of  Malaysia to the United Kingdom were among the notable guests who who attended the event.
