Overview
Labis is the second largest town located south of the Segamat district in the state of Johor.
The origin of Labis’ name was derived from the Malay word for the river terrapin. Labis began as a combination of a few Malay villages including Kampung Paya Merah, Kampung Sungai Gatom and Kampung Tenang. Labis is an agricultural town which mainly produces rubber latex and palm oil. Labis town, as well as two other small towns, namely Chaah and Bekok, was previously a resettlement area for the Chinese during the communist insurgency.
The North-South Expressway passes through Labis, as well as the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) railway line that also connects it with Johor Bahru, the state’s capital in the south. Bus services are also available in Labis.

Located around 11 kilometres from Labis town, the Labis hot springs is famed as a recreational place to relax, indulge in a spot of picnicking and definitely for visitors to take warm soothing dips as a way of reaping the healing value of the natural hot spring waters.
